Completed in November 2025 by Kitchen Kit Exeter, this bespoke Nobilia Easytouch kitchen transformed a family home in Torquay, Devon. The project focused on opening up the existing layout by removing an internal wall between the kitchen and dining room, creating a larger, more sociable open-plan living space. Designed to support everyday family life, including space for dogs, the new kitchen balances practicality, warmth, and modern German design.

What were the goals for the new kitchen?

The homeowners wanted a kitchen that would function as the heart of the home: a welcoming, open-plan environment for cooking, dining, relaxing, and socialising. A key aim was to improve flow by knocking through into the dining room, allowing better natural light and clearer sightlines across the space. The kitchen needed to be practical for a busy family, with durable finishes, generous seating, and thoughtful zones that worked seamlessly with daily routines, including coming in from walks with the dogs.

What design challenges did we solve, and how?

The main challenge was the relatively narrow footprint of the room. Despite this, the clients were keen to include both a central island and a separate peninsula with seating. Through careful space planning, we achieved a balanced layout that maintains clear walkways while delivering excellent functionality. We also integrated a dedicated boot room area within the kitchen design, providing practical storage for coats, shoes, and everyday essentials without compromising the clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Which cabinets and worktops did we choose, and why?

We specified Nobilia Easytouch in Sand, a soft, warm tone that brings a calm, contemporary feel to the space and works beautifully in open-plan living. To add contrast and depth, Sierra Oak was introduced as an accent finish, complementing the Sand cabinetry and adding natural warmth. The customers chose to use their own white quartz worktops, which enhance brightness, reflect light across the space, and provide a durable, family-friendly surface that pairs effortlessly with the cabinetry.

Which appliances and sinks complete the look?

A coordinated suite of Bosch appliances was selected for reliability, performance, and clean design integration. A standout feature is the venting hob on the island, which removes the need for overhead extraction and keeps sightlines open across the room. The kitchen is finished with a Blanco sink paired with a Quooker boiling water tap, adding convenience and efficiency to everyday tasks.
